Playa Cala Chica
San José · Cabo de Gata
Playa Cala Chica
Playa Cala Chica is a sheltered cove, approximately 100-150 metres long, flanked by volcanic cliffs. It offers a quiet and discreet environment, suitable for those seeking a more secluded beach experience with a natural character and no services. Its location provides protection from the wind, making it pleasant on breezy days. Nudism is common here.
How to Get There
From San José, take the road towards Playa de los Genoveses. Once at the Genoveses car park (or at the end of the track if accessing on foot or by bicycle), access to Cala Chica is via a coastal path heading south. The path is of low-medium difficulty, with some uneven sections. The walk from the Genoveses car park takes approximately 15-20 minutes. During the summer months (July and August), car access to the Genoveses track is restricted, and a shuttle bus operates from San José.
Parking and Facilities
There is no direct parking at Cala Chica. Visitors must park at the Playa de los Genoveses car park (paid in high season) and continue on foot. Cala Chica has no facilities or services of any kind (beach bars, showers, toilets). It is a completely unspoilt beach.
Beach Characteristics
The beach is approximately 100-150 metres long. The sand is medium-grained, mixed with small stones and gravel. The swell is usually gentle due to the cove's sheltered position. The waters are clear and suitable for swimming. Visitor numbers are low to medium, even in high season, due to the walking access. It is a beach frequented by nudists.
What to Do
The main activities are relaxed swimming and snorkelling, thanks to the clear waters and presence of underwater rocks. It is also a suitable place for sunbathing in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoying the landscape.
Practical Tips
- 💡 Always carry water and provisions, as there are no services on the beach.
