Playa Calas de la Vela Blanca

Playa Calas de la Vela Blanca is a collection of small, unspoilt coves located along the coast between Almadraba de Monteleva and San José. Their wild character and foot access make them a refuge for visitors seeking peace and an untouched natural landscape. The surroundings are dominated by volcanic cliffs and native vegetation, providing a striking contrast between the blue sea and the ochre tones of the rock.

How to Get There

From Almadraba de Monteleva, take the dirt track leading towards San José. After approximately 1.5 km, you will reach a fence that marks the start of the footpath. From this point, walk about 800 metres along an unmarked and somewhat uneven path to reach the coves. The walk typically takes 15-20 minutes.

Parking and Facilities

There is no designated parking area. Cars can be left on the verges of the dirt track before the fence, but space is limited and unsupervised. There are no facilities or services of any kind at the coves (beach bars, showers, toilets).

Beach Characteristics

These are several small coves, with a combined total length of approximately 200-300 metres. The sand is coarse-grained, mixed with gravel and some rocks. The swell is usually moderate, although it can intensify with Levante winds. The waters are clear and clean. Visitor numbers are low, even in high season, due to the challenging access.

What to Do

Relaxed swimming, snorkelling (good visibility and marine life), photography of volcanic landscapes, coastal walking (with caution), seabird watching.

Practical Tips

  • 💡 Bring everything you need: water, food, sun protection, and a parasol, as there are no services available. Wear appropriate footwear for the walk along the uneven path. Take all your rubbish with you; this is a protected and unspoilt natural area. Exercise caution when swimming if there is a swell, as there are no lifeguards. Consider visiting in spring or autumn to enjoy milder temperatures and fewer people.
