Basic orientation
The park splits into two natural areas: the south coast (Cabo de Gata, San José, the coves of Mónsul and Genoveses) with the most famous and iconic beaches, and the north coast (Los Escullos, La Isleta del Moro, Las Negras, Agua Amarga) with a quieter, less visited character. The coastal road connects them, but some stretches are single lane, so drive calmly.
Níjar town sits inland, 34 km from San José across the hills. Carboneras, at the northern edge of the park, is the natural entry point from Almería city via the motorway.
