Cala de la Media Luna is a unique beach in Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, named for its distinctive semicircular shape. It is a natural, unspoiled area with no buildings or services, offering a peaceful atmosphere and intact scenic beauty. The beach is surrounded and protected by rock formations, creating a secluded and distinctive setting.

How to Get There

To reach Cala de la Media Luna from San José, take the unpaved track that leads from the village towards the beaches. The distance is approximately 3-4 kilometres, and the drive can take 10-15 minutes, depending on the track's condition and your speed. It is advisable to drive slowly due to the uneven terrain.

Parking and Facilities

There are no facilities or services on the beach itself. Parking is limited and available in designated areas along the access track or near the cove. In high season (21 June to 22 September in 2026) car access is regulated, and at weekends parking may fill up quickly. There are no toilets, showers, beach bars, or bins.

Beach Characteristics

Cala de la Media Luna features fine sand. The swell is usually gentle, making it suitable for swimming. The waters are clear, and the entry into the sea is gradual. Due to its unspoiled nature and lack of services, it is a moderately busy beach, though it can be more crowded on summer weekends.

Main activities at Cala de la Media Luna include relaxed swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the natural landscape. It is a good spot for walking along the shore and observing the surrounding rock formations. Given the clarity of its waters, snorkelling can be an interesting option for exploring the seabed.
