Playa Los Genoveses

Playa Los Genoveses is one of the most notable bays in Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, known for its fine golden sand dunes. Located in the Campillo del Genovés area, a valley with minimal construction and no asphalted roads, it retains its natural, unspoiled state. It is a wide, undeveloped beach with a very gradual entry into the water, making it suitable for family bathing.

How to Get There

From San José, access is via an unpaved dirt track. During July and August, private vehicle access is restricted, and a shuttle bus operates from San José.

Parking and Facilities

Parking is available but subject to restrictions in summer. During peak season, access is limited, and the car park fills quickly. There are no services such as showers, toilets, or beach bars, so visitors must bring everything they need.

Beach Characteristics

  • Length: Over 1 kilometre.
  • Sand type: Fine and golden.
  • Water entry: Very gradual, ideal for children.
  • Swell: Generally calm, but rip currents can occur with strong winds. The beach faces east, so strong Levante winds can make it less pleasant.
  • Recommended season: Outside of peak season to avoid crowds and access restrictions.

What to Do

Enjoy swimming in calm, shallow waters.

Walk along the beach and dunes.

Seek shade in the small grove on the northern part of the beach.

Observe native vegetation, such as prickly pears and agaves.

Practical Tips

  • 💡 Sun protection is essential, especially in summer.
  • 💡 If visiting in summer, consider using the shuttle bus or arriving very early to secure parking.
  • 💡 Pay attention to children on windy days due to potential currents.
