Playa Cala Chumba

Playa Cala Chumba is a semi-wild cove situated between Rellana de San Pedro and the Plomo cliffs, close to Agua Amarga. The landscape is defined by distinctive volcanic rock formations, giving it a rugged and unique appearance. It offers a tranquil, well-preserved natural environment, ideal for those seeking to avoid crowds.

How to Get There

From Agua Amarga, take the road towards Las Negras. After approximately 1 km, you will find a signposted turn-off to the right for Cala Chumba. Access is via a 2 km dirt track. The track is generally in good condition and passable for standard cars, but caution is advised, and a moderate speed is recommended due to potential potholes or loose stones. The journey from Agua Amarga takes around 10-15 minutes.

Parking and Facilities

There is an informal parking area at the end of the dirt track, close to the beach. It is not a designated car park, so capacity is limited and unregulated. There are no services of any kind on the beach (beach bars, showers, toilets, bins).

Beach Characteristics

The beach is approximately 100-150 metres long. The sand is mixed, with gravel and some finer sand areas, interspersed with small stones. The swell is usually moderate, though it can vary depending on wind conditions (Levante or Poniente). The waters are clear and clean. Visitor numbers are low, even in high season, making it a good choice for those seeking peace and quiet.

What to Do

Snorkelling is possible in its clear waters, allowing exploration of the underwater rock formations. It is suitable for calm swimming and walking along the shore. The volcanic formations also make it an interesting spot for landscape photography, especially at sunset.

Practical Tips

  • 💡 Bring everything you need: water, food, a parasol, and sun cream, as there are no services available. Take all your rubbish with you when you leave to help preserve the natural environment.
